r_inventory

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 4, 2026

r_inventory is a social archiving app where people catalog the things they own. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, what we share with whom, and what choices you have. It is meant to be readable. If anything is unclear, write to us and we will explain.

r_inventory is built and operated by Rebranding in Progress LLC, a New York limited liability company. The app exists to be a place people enjoy.

What we collect

When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. The password is hashed and stored by our authentication provider. We never see your password.

When you set up your profile, you choose a username, a display name, an accent color, and optionally a short bio. You can change these at any time.

When you add things to your inventory, we collect photos of the items, a name for the item, the date you acquired it, a story about it, and optional fields for stats and location. Location is a text field you type in. We never read GPS coordinates and we never access your camera roll outside of the specific photos you choose to share.

When you interact with the app, we record the actions you take. This includes the items you save, the people you follow, the messages you send and receive, the portraits you draw or are the subject of, the likes and comments you leave, and any items you transfer to another person as a gift.

We generate a push notification token for your device so the app can send you notifications. We record timestamps for things like when you last opened your activity feed, so we know whether to show you a new-activity indicator.

We do not run advertising trackers. We do not use third-party analytics that follow you across other apps and websites. We do not sell or share your data with data brokers.

How we use what we collect

We use your information to run the app. This means showing you your inventory, delivering messages to the right people, sending you notifications, letting other users find and follow you, and keeping moderation tools working.

We use your email address to send account-related emails such as signup confirmation and password reset. We do not send marketing emails.

We use your photos to display your items to you and to the people who view your profile or see your items on Explore.

Background removal happens on your phone

When you upload an item photo, the app removes the background of the photo before it ever leaves your device. This processing uses Apple's on-device Vision framework. No copy of the original photo is sent anywhere for background removal.

AI item identification

The app offers a feature where you can have an item's name and description automatically suggested based on the photo. When you use this feature, the photo and a request for a description are sent to Anthropic's API for processing. Anthropic returns a suggested name and description, which you can accept, edit, or ignore.

We send only the specific photo you choose to identify. We do not send your name, your username, or any other personal information with the request. Anthropic's own data practices apply to what they receive. Their policy is at anthropic.com/legal/privacy.

This feature is optional. You can add items manually without using AI identification.

Who sees what

Other users. Your username, display name, bio, accent color, member number, items, and portraits drawn of you are visible to anyone with the app. Private accounts hide your inventory from non-followers.

Logged-out visitors. A small number of curated profiles are visible to people who have not signed up, on a public landing page. Your profile is not on this landing page unless you have agreed to be featured.

Never visible to others. Your messages, your saved items, your blocking list, and your moderation history are never visible to anyone but you and, in the case of moderation, the admin team.

The admin team. Currently the admin team is one person. The admin can see reports filed against you or by you, can ban or shadowban accounts that violate the rules, and can hide individual photos that violate content rules without deleting the entire item.

Services we rely on

To run r_inventory we use a small number of third-party services. Each one sees only what it needs to do its job.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, Firebase, or other advertising or tracking services.

How long we keep your data

We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account in the app, your profile, items, photos, portraits drawn of you, messages, follows, and other content are permanently removed from our database.

Photos in our storage are removed on a best-effort basis when their owning item or account is deleted. If you find a photo file persists after its parent record is removed, contact us and we will remove it manually.

Backups of the database may persist for a short period after deletion, typically less than a month, to protect against accidental data loss. After that window, no copy of your data remains.

Your rights

You can:

If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or California, you have additional rights under GDPR and CCPA. These include the right to know what data we hold about you, the right to request its deletion, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.

We do not sell personal information. We have never sold personal information. We never plan to.

Children

r_inventory is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Users aged 13 to 17 are welcome but should review this policy with a parent or guardian.

Reports and abuse

If someone is harassing you, posting harmful content, or otherwise violating our rules, use the in-app Report function or contact us directly. We commit to reviewing every report within 48 hours and taking appropriate action, which may include hiding content, banning accounts, or removing the offending material.

You can also block any user directly in the app, which removes them from your view entirely.

Security

Your password is hashed and never visible to us. Your data is transmitted over HTTPS. We use Row Level Security policies on our database so that one user's data cannot be read by another user except through the intended app interactions. No system is perfectly secure, but we take care.

If we discover a security incident that affects your data, we will notify affected users by email within a reasonable time, no later than 72 hours after we become aware of it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in a material way, we will notify users in the app and update the date at the top. The current policy will always be available at this URL.
